PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT Work on Your Family Emergency Plan as Part of Your Family Day Activities

www.insurancerate.com StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Markham ~ February 17, 2011Markham encourages families large and small to take 30 minutes during their Family Day activities to work on a family emergency plan.

Emergencies can happen anywhere, at any time – sometimes without warning.  An emergency can force you to evacuate your neighbourhood, or confine you to your home or workplace without basic services such as water, gas, electricity or a working telephone.
While you cannot predict an emergency, you can prepare your family for one by taking these three easy steps:

1.    Know the risks in your community
2.    Create a family emergency plan
3.    Get or make a 72-hour family emergency kit
To learn more about creating a family emergency plan, to review Markham’s new Emergency Plan, and to access additional emergency preparedness resources, visit Emergency Management under Fire and Emergency Services atwww.markham.ca.
