PRIME MINISTER HARPER CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF UPGRADES TO SCIENCE WORLD BRITISH COLUMBIA

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Economic Action Plan initiative contributes to exciting learning opportunities for youth - VANCOUVER – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today celebrated the completion of upgrades to Science World British Columbia. Funded through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, upgrades to the facility will attract more tourists, visitors and families to engage in the fun of science for years to come. He was accompanied by James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

“Our Government is committed to promoting a culture of knowledge and innovation,” said the Prime Minister. “Improvements at Vancouver’s iconic Science World will continue to inspire young minds for generations to discover science and technology while attracting tourists, creating jobs and growth here in British Columbia.”

Science World British Columbia is a self-supporting, non-profit science museum based in the heart of Vancouver. It engages families, educators and youth across British Columbia, inspiring positive attitudes towards science and technology in a fun, interactive way. Along with offering a unique learning facility, Science World is one of the most-visited tourist attractions in British Columbia.

The Government’s contribution for this initiative was made possible through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, a key part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. Thanks to the Canada’s Economic Action Plan and Canada’s strong economic and financial fundamentals, the Canadian economy has recovered from the global recession better than most other industrialized countries. Canada has been a leader amongst G-7 countries throughout the recovery with nearly 600,000 net new jobs created since July 2009.
