Eid al-Adha Statement by the Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, and Liberal Critic for Multiculturalism

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-As Eid al-Adha begins, I would like to offer warm regards to all Canadians who are observing this religious festival.

One of the most important rights protected by our Constitution is the right to worship.  The observance of Eid al-Adha is a time to visit with family and friends, while remembering those who are less fortunate and the importance of religion in one’s life.

At this time of year, people of all the great religions gather together with family and friends, remember the less fortunate and pray for peace in our world.  As all Canadians celebrate, in their own way, we realize how similar we are and that our perceived differences are artificial and insignificant.

Charity and the joy of celebrating with family and friends during Eid al-Adha serves to remind each of us of the need to look after our fellow man and how our family and friends enrich our lives.

Eid al-Adha Mubarak.
