StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-TORONTO – Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement upon learning of the death of Cpl. Yannick Scherrer who was serving the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan:
“Like all Canadians, I was grieved to learn of the passing of Cpl. Scherrer, who lost his life while working to ensure that the Afghan people can build a better future for themselves.”
Cpl. Yannick Scherrer of Montreal was killed by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol near Nakhonay, southwest of Kandahar city. He was 24 years old.
“We owe a deep debt of gratitude to all the Canadian men and women who have lost their lives in Afghanistan as part of our NATO mission. Dedicated soldiers like Cpl. Scherrer have brought security and development to a troubled land, and freed it from a repressive regime. We are incredibly proud of their service.”
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, my deepest condolences go to the family and friends of Cpl Scherrer, and to the entire Canadian Forces family for their loss.”
