Transcript: Min. Kenney response in Question Period

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Please find the transcript below from Question Period today with a question from Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament (Fleetwood-Port Kells), and response from the Hon. Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.

Question Period Transcript – February 17th, 2011
The Speaker: The honourable member.
Nina Grewal (C): Mr. Speaker, there have been a lot of falsehoods recklessly thrown around on the issue of family class immigration. Would the minister of immigration and citizenship set the record straight on our government's record on family immigration, how it compares to the liberals when they last were in power and what Canadians can expect in 2011.
The Speaker: The honourable minister.

Jason Kenney (C): I can announce that last year in 2010 we received in Canada a larger number of family members than in any year over the past three decades. And next year -- this year in 2011, Mr. Speaker, we are further increasing the numbers for family reunification. The planning ranges last year were 57 to 63,000. This year we're increasing the planning ranges for parents, spouses, children and grandparents to 58,500 to 65,000. That's an increase. More family members being reunited with their loved ones here in Canada. We're getting the job done for newcomers.
