StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-ZURICH, February 15, 2011 – Today, the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport) accompanied the Canadian Soccer Association as it made its official bid submission to Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 and FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2014.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 will play an important role in the development of young Canadian athletes for podium success on the international stage. It will provide Canada’s athletes with valuable international level training and competition experience at home,” said the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport). “I envision hugely successful tournaments in 2014 and 2015 with the financial assistance committed by our government."
FIFA will announce the host of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 by March 4, 2010. In addition to the 2015 event, the bid includes the hosting of the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Canada has a strong history of hosting FIFA events, including the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007. If this bid is successful, the tournaments will be hosted in cities across the country, providing direct and significant benefits to communities from coast to coast.

The Canadian Soccer Association is the national governing body for soccer in Canada. Under the Sport Canada Hosting Program, the Government of Canada will contribute up to $15 million for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 and FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2014.
