Raghu Dixit to perform in Canada for the first time at desiFEST concert series in association with Canadian Music Fest

StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-Monday, February 28th, 2011-2nd ANNUAL desiFEST CONCERT SERIES IN ASSOCIATION WITH CANADIAN MUSIC FEST
Toronto, ON - For the 2nd year in a row, the producers of desiFEST bring to you a South Asian showcase under its desiFEST brand at Canada's largest music festival, Canadian Music Week. This year’s show case takes place March 12th at the Hard Rock Cafe in Toronto.

Raghu Dixit, a world renowned folk/fusion artist from Mysore, India will be headlining alongside special guest Jordan John, a powerful Toronto based singer/multi-instrumentalist who has shared the stage with the likes of Jeff Healey, Prince, The Guess Who and Lucky Peterson among others. Joining them are Pakistani-Canadian contemporary pop artist Ef-Khan and Canadian Bollywood sensation Shweta.
Raghu Dixit is known as a self-taught guitarist/singer/composer/songwriter.  In 2008, Raghu Dixit caught the attention of famed Bollywood duo Vishal & Shekhar, who signed Raghu for the recent launch of his debut album. It was India’s highest selling non-film music release last year, with the album topping the iTunes UK World album chart and the track “No Man Will Ever Love You, Like I Do” reaching number two on the iTunes UK World singles chart.
Raghu has over 300 live concerts under his belt, and is currently on his first world tour which has included prestigious festivals such as Cornbury (UK), Larmer Tree (UK), WOMAD Caceres (Spain), One Movement (Australia) and NH7 (India). Raghu’s Toronto concert falls in-between highly anticipated shows for his band at the Kennedy Center (Washington) and Bluesfest (Australia).
“After a very long time have I heard someone like Raghu Dixit,” says Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan (Devdas, My Name Is Khan). “It’s very earthy - the music is new and energetic so it attracts you instantly.”
Fellow Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra (Bluffmaster, Fashion) adds “Raghu has a very fresh sound – it’s not something we’ve heard for a very long time.” Famed Bollywood director Karan Johar (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name Is Khan) also remarks “There's a lot of soul in his melody and voice – Raghu is truly a catch and a find."
“Our 2nd annual showcase with CMF will continue to build on our commitment to provide South Asian music and artists more opportunities to showcase their music,” says Sathish Bala, CEO and Founder, desiFEST.  “It’s only by working together, will we succeed together. The CMF team, led by Neill Dixon, is a wonderful organization with a long history of music. Working with them on these showcases has been a fantastic opportunity for desiFEST, and we hope to continue this partnership for many years to come.”
