SYNOPSIS

Few Indians are aware of the number of suicides that occur in Indian Hostels as a result of the phenomenon termed as ‘Ragging’.  This sadistic practice has become a ritual wherein students are beaten up, stripped, paraded naked, starved, tortured, molested and even raped by their seniors. Since victims of ragging find it humiliating to report sexual abuse to their parents or others, most ragging-related crimes go unreported. Sadly, these very students - who suffer silently at the hands of their seniors - in turn vent their frustrations by ragging their juniors in the following years. Thus, this cruel practice continues year after year and has claimed (and is still claiming) the lives and careers of innumerable students. The film ‘Hostel’ is a shocking eye-opener about this evil practice and is a wake-up call for all of us.

The Director

Manish Gupta started his career as a scriptwriter. He has scripted the widely acclaimed and largely successful ‘SARKAR’. He made his debut as a director in 2009 with the critically acclaimed ‘THE STONEMAN MURDERS’. Having carved a niche for himself in the world of gritty, real-to-life cinema,    Manish hits out once again with ‘HOSTEL’ - his second film as a director.

The Producers

Vickey Tejwani has been producing content for television and film since the past 20 years. He co-produced the film ‘MY BROTHER NIKHIL’ (2003) that won critical acclaim on a global level. Gurpal Sachar joined hands with Vickey to form Matrix Medias’ an integrated production company that went on to produce many successful reality shows along with other television content.

The Distributor

Currently headed by Mr. Sudhir N.R. who has over 25 years of experience of distribution in the Indian film industry, Cinevision Distributors Pvt. Ltd. have distributed over twenty films in Hindi, regional and foreign languages and they have a slate of releases planned for this year and the year ahead.
