October 29, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Controversies and protests have become very useful commercial tools these days for Bollywood movies. The same technique seems to be working for Sanjay Sharma’s movie Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun, which is facing constant protest for its controversial topic ‘homosexuality’.
The movie was set to release this Friday in the Indian theaters but the continuous protests from the right-wing groups have further delayed the release of the movie till Diwali. So, the movie will now compete with two big budget movies with big stars. Multistarrer Golmaal 3 and Askhay and Aishwarya starrer Action Replayy are also releasing on the same day.
However, the makers have taken all these in their stride and even went to the extent of inviting the protesters to watch the movie when it releases during Diwali. They want the protesters to watch the movie to clear their wrong notion about the movie. The makers said that the protesters will realize that movie is much more than just sensationalism as it has portrayed the homosexuality as a very sensitive relationship.
The movie stars newcomers Yuvraj Parashar and Kapil Sharma in the central roles. The subject of the movie has made the protesters go against its release but they can’t totally stop its release at any situation as gay relationship is legalized in India recently.
The makers received warnings from various organizations threatening them to face dire consequences if the movie is released. However, the makers are worried about the security of the stakeholders and partners of the movie.
Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun also stars veteran actress Zeenat Aman and Helen in important roles. This low budget movie also has Kabir Bedi, Rituparna Sengupta and Asha Sachdev in other vital roles.
Hope, the festive season of Diwali brings some hope for the makers and the movie gets well acceptance from Indian viewers!
