The festival is currently the longest running South Asian film festival in North America, and the first to introduce a music video segment to celebrate South Asian artists from across Canada and around the world.

FILMI 2008 featured a world premiere of the “Singh Is Kinng” director’s cut starring rap legend Snoop Dogg in his Bollywood music video debut, while FILMI 2009 saw #1 Billboard artist Jay Sean receive the inaugural FILMI Music Video Award.

A special South Asian themed remix of the hit single “So Much” by Calgary R&B artist Raghav and Konvict recording artist Kardinal Offishall will also be premiering at FILMI 2010, now featuring UK bhangra star H-Dhami.

The vision of the FILMI South Asian Film Festival is to promote, discover, introduce and celebrate cinematic endeavours by talented South Asian filmmakers, actors and musicians, and to highlight works with South Asian themes that can be brought to a mainstream audience.
